Um, basically, it’s my second blog birthday today and I wanted to mark the occasion, share a few memories and thank yous, and then bugger off again for another few days or so, lol. Seriously though, the last 12 months have been even more of a roller coaster than the previous ones, but, overall, they have been just as enjoyable if not more so. Once again, I don’t have anything particularly profound to offer, but here, in no particular order, be some highlights…
The Shows:
So, being mainly an episodic blogger, I was fortunate enough to be able to review some great shows over the past four seasons, both as a single and co-blogger. These were:
-Nichijou (Spring 2011, but, being a 2 cour show, it continued airing into the Summer of 2011, hence its inclusion in this years’ anniversary post as well as in my previous one)
-Chihayafuru (Autumn 2011, and another 2 cour show, so I ended up covering this over Winter 2012 too)
-Space Brothers (Spring 2012, a.k.a. my current blogging waifu)
In addition to these, I also found myself writing more editorials and meta stuff, and the shows and subjects that these posts focussed on included:
-my best of 2011 round-up
-a post on what it was like for me to be a first time cosplayer at an anime con
-slice of life moments in Kimi to Boku (on season one that is, still need to catch up with season two)
-the presentation of ‘the uncanny’ in Another and Shiki
-on Dem Feelings in various Natsume Yuujinchou posts
-on the awesomeness that is Berserk
-on the gorgeousness that is Hotarubi no Mori e
I guess, in comparison to the previous 12 months, there was less epi-blogging and a bit more non-epi-blogging-related stuff. I still very much enjoy epi-blogging, but I think I like the fact that I have more of a variety in my blogging output these days, so I guess I’m happy to continue in this vein for the foreseeable future.
The People:
I might have mentioned elsewhere that I was also lucky enough to interact with more anime lovin’/ bloggin’ folks since my last (i.e. my first) blog birthday, so I’ll keep this short. So, er, in short: they know who they are, so I’ll just add that it was a pleasure to meet (again, in some cases) some of the lovely US-ians and folks closer to home who I got to hang out with at the end of last Summer and Autumn, and I hope to meet more of you in the not too distant future too.
And Finally…
Not much else to add, except to emphasize how happy I am to have survived another year in the ani-bloggersphere and that, though I have my more productive and less productive moments, you ain’t getting rid of me just yet. Also, while nothing could possibly beat Banana Man and his box of Crunchy Nut (the focus of this section in last year’s post), I feel that this also comes close as another random highlight: witnessing the birth of Baka-san the Twitterer. Quite frankly, I don’t know if I was more happy or more disappointed that he finally joined Twitter. Either way, it was a truly memorable occasion. That is all.
